Dallas/ Fort Worth

I had a wonderful weekend in Dallas with my friend Sam. It was a much needed weekend hanging out with my best girl-friend Sam. We ate at Gloria’s on Friday night, awesome Mexican food!! Then went to her apartment and relaxed, made coffee, watched the movie Prime. I also got to see my old roommate from a few years ago, Jennifer, that night. We slept in the next morning- then went to the Fort Worth Zoo. The Zoo is so cool- and it was the perfect place to shoot photos with my new camera (I took 150 in two hours- wow!) After that, we went and hung out in Downtown Fort Worth. We went and saw “Four Day Weekend” at the Improve Club that night. They show is very similar to the T.V. show “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Their whole act is improved with lots of audience interaction. We laughed so hard. Then, we got Reese Peanut Butter Cheesecake and Cookie Dough Cheesecake from the Cheesecake factory. The cheesecake was amazing!! Sunday we went to The Village Church and really enjoyed worshipping there. To make the weekend complete we ate lunch at La Madeline. It was so fun being in Dallas and being with Sam. It refreshed my soul.

Fish and Walmart

Marcus decided on Saturday he wanted to buy a “friend” (aka fish). I was thinking he waned to get one gold fish or a Beta and that we could put in a cool vase that we have. Nope, he wanted FISH!! Lots of them. Growing up he had tropical fish and now once again he had the desire to have some more. This began our Wal-Mart weekend. Went to Wal-Mart Saturday evening, bought the things we found earlier with our gift cards and while we were there we looked at the fish. We waited around for forever by the fish tank and when we realized that no one would be helping us that night, we decided to go the other Wal-Mart. At 11:30pm we left the other Wal-Mart, with an aquarium, and all necessary aquarium appliances, three fish (two puffer fish and a silver dollar), a frog and a snail. We got home and set up the aquarium… and awoke the next morning to find that our frog was dead… one of the puffer fish turned out to be an aggressive puffer and it pecked the frog to death.

Sunday afternoon, we took the dead frog back to Wal-Mart for a refund… and rather than get frustrated at the lack of help in the fish department, we went to Pets Mart instead. We bought three more fish there (one dragon fish, a Baal shark, and a sucker fish). We took them to their new home, and the puffer fish started pecking at the new fishes’ fins. By this time we were so frustrated with the puffer we decided he had to go. We went back to Wal-Mart for the fifth time in 24 hours and got a refund on our possessive pecker puffer. (Say that three times fast).

We now have five fish and a snail and a pretty cool aquarium and a dumb fish that can keep us entertained for hours. Marcus has promised me that he will feed fish and clean the tank. I guess until we can have a dog, these fish will have to do.

Spring Break

Ok so I don’t get a Spring Break this year, I am sitting behind a desk reminiscing the years of skiing down mountains in Telluride, Colorado, eating pizza from Baked in Telluride, drinking coffee from the local coffee shop in Telluride. Welcome to the real life right? Honesty, is hasn’t been that bad staying here in Lubbock. I am learning to enjoy life’s simple pleasures and discovering new places here.

Last Thursday, my husband and I discovered our new favorite place in Lubbock. It’s a place called La Diosa. It’s in the Depot district in downtown Lubbock, a quaint, relaxing, restaurant, coffee shop, wine bar, etc. It reminded us of being back in Europe. We walked in to a coffee shop atmosphere, sat down on a couch, ate, and relaxed there from 6:45- almost 10. There was a jazz band that played Thursday night. Friday night we took my sister and my parents there and let them enjoy the experience and music.

Well, I guess being an adult in the real world isn’t all that bad. It just takes a little more effort to view the place you live with new eyes and allow yourself to have a good time no matter where you may be.

Granny

Granny, Marcus’ great grandmother died last night. Back in August she began to not feel well. I remember talking to her after we got back from Germany and she told me “I’m so tired, I’m ready to go home.” A week later she had a pacemaker put in. That helped her a lot, she was energetic again. I remember during Thanksgiving, she ate all of her Thanksgiving meal. I was told that that was something she had not been able to do in a long time. I think I will always remember her the way she was at our wedding. I remember seeing her on the dance floor having a great time. We were so thankful that she made it to see that day. She also lived to see the birth of Hayden Gunter, Marcus' sister's baby. He was born last week.

While she was in the hospital I was told that she gave everyone she came into contact with a cross that she had made and told everyone that Jesus loved them. A few weeks she ago she took a turn for the worse. Every time we heard the phone ring we thought it could be the call. Last night it was “that call.” After we heard the news, all I could think about was that in that instant she was home, she was healed, she was with the ONE her heart longed to be with for so long. I am rejoicing for her now, and yes, I’m even a little envious. No more pain, no more tears… She is in the presence of Jesus, staring into her makers face. I am glad I had the opportunity to know Granny. Her life blessed so many lives including my own.
