Surrender

On Tuesday, I met with my good friend Kristen L. We spent almost three hours catching up on life, talking about God’s faithfulness, how blessed we are that our husbands love the Lord, how amazed we are at God’s work when we look at our husband’s lives and see where they once were and how the Lord has molded, shaped, and created within them a heart that beats to glorify him, and how blessed we are that the men in our lives are truly our best friends, our help mates.

One of Kristen’s friend lives in East Asia now. She was telling me that before they left they had a huge garage salel where they sold ALL their stuff. Kristen remembers being at her friend’s wedding shower years before where they received all the gifts that were sold in the garage sale. She said that night, after the garage sale, they slept on the floor in an empty house. While she was laying there, she said she was actually envious of her friend. She was jealous of her friend had just sold all the material possessions they owned, who were leaving the US, moving to Asia with her husband for who knows how long, and facing the unknown.

She was envious that her friends no longer had to care about material possessions and the “worries of this world.” Their only care while living in Asia is learning the language of that country so that the Hope of the World could be proclaimed to every nation, tribe, and in every language.

While she was talking to be about her friend, a few tears fell from my eyes when I think of the life that awaits Marcus and me. In January, 2007, most of our stuff will get put into storage for a few years and we will probably sell one, if not both, of our cars. A few years down the road, we too will probably be having a garage sale where ALL of our stuff, our new dishes, couch, bedroom furniture, and all the things that make up our home now will be sold. Honestly, I am not looking forward to that day.
